Portraits Of Power: Nike Women With Annie Leibovitz Photography

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

In a powerful article written by Monica Wright, guard WNBA, readers are given the opportunity to see first hand the positive impact Title IX has on the world of athletics.

Monica’s article reviews her past and touts positive impact and progress the law has made not only in her life, but on the wide world of sports in its short existence.

Passed in 1972, the Monica quotes that the law has seen “participation in women’s sports in high schools increase 900%.” She cites that prior to Title IX, “there were fewer than 30,000 NCAA female athletes. In 2012, that number was nearly 200,000. Just to top it off, in 2012, the United States sent more female than male athletes to the Olympics.”

Monica’s main point, don’t sleep on Title IX and the expansive impact of Title IX has made already because it’s true potential has yet to be fully realized.

Please take a look and support IX and others by reading and sharing her article.
